The Elephant of Surprise Guest Post | Free Printable

My sister and I teamed up to create this free printable for back to school. I can't believe that summer is almost over, I feel like I have so much left to do before it ends. My sister has a great blog that if you haven't seen it, you must! Thanks Aimee, for always so many great and creative ideas and I am anxious to get this printed and in Patrick's room.

I'm a little sniffly today. It's my first-born's first day of preschool! I know, I know, it's preschool. One day a week. For 3 hours. But, sheesh, today it's preschool, tomorrow he's going to be driving! It's a killer, but I'm also so happy and excited for him! He has been asking me for almost a year to go to school. He's so eager, the first time I dropped him off at the IKEA play land a couple months ago, he ran in and said, "Bye, Mom. I'm going to my class!"

I hope today exceeds all his expectations.

I came across this quote last week, and I immediately loved it. Short and sweet, but so wise. I thought it would be a great theme for my kids during their school years. (I know, my oldest is starting preschool. Eyerolls appropriate.) I envisioned it hung somewhere they would see it often and be reminded of the choices that bring happiness in this life. So I asked my talented sister, Leslie for a photo to pair with the quote. This is what we came up with together. Now I just have to find the perfect spot to hang it.

Leslie was kind enough to offer this image as a FREE PRINTABLE to all of you! Click here to get a copy for your personal use. If you need it resized, feel free to email me.

Ready for warmer weather

Last summer we were living in Hawaii and nothing could be better than that! I am ready for these long winter months to be over. These are a few images from a fun day at Hanauma Bay. Patrick loved playing in the sand and we loved snorkeling. I hope this summer will be just as fun!

Favorites of 2012

I took a rather long break from work and blogging to enjoy being around family and I even got to go to the Bahamas! Now I am ready and refreshed to work hard and have fun in 2013!
I thought I would put together a few of my favorite photos from last year. I had so many, it was hard to pick just a few! I had such a great year because of all the love and support from you!

Sam and Aaron Burch // Maternity

I have fallen so behind on posting pictures...I can't believe that Halloween is right around the corner! As it is getting colder in Idaho, I find myself missing Hawaii more and more. I love fall and all that it brings, such as hot chocolate and pumpkin cookies. I am just not looking forward to the dreadful winter around the corner.

Sam and Aaron are such a cute couple and welcomed a little baby girl into their family. It was so much fun to get to know them and create such a good friendship. I loved being able to photograph them on the beaches in Hawaii. I wish I could do more photo shoots in the sand.

10 best tips when traveling with toddlers

In the 1 and 1/2 years of Patrick's life, he has been on more plane rides and road trips than most. His first road trip was to Utah when he was no more then a week old. We have driven the long journey to and from Washington several times. Utah at least once a month and to go see my in-laws several times a month (only an hour away but still can be challenge).  Patrick and I have been on several long plane rides to and from Hawaii, as well as Ohio. And yes! Most of the time it is just me and him.

By now, we have it down to the science. One of my proudest moment, is when a women commented how fast we got through the security gate at the airport! Don't get me wrong it has been filled with ups and downs and pretty messy and stinky situations. And while there will always be challenges, it doesn't have to be miserable. But preparation is key!

It is so important and easiest to travel with absolute smallest amount possible. Anything in excess will be hard to carry and keep track of.

Diapers and Wipes: Take double what you usually use and definitely bring the whole bag of wipes. You'll use them for everything.

Always bring an extra set of clothes for you and your little one. You never knew when you will be desperate for a clean shirt. My little guy has puked and pooped all over me and luckily I had a change of clothes. There is nothing more embarrassing then smelling like your child's poop.

It is also important to bring little trash bags for dirty diapers and clothes. Theses are the ones we like, it keeps the smell contained.

Plenty of snacks! Pack snacks that are easy and no mess. We love plum organic snacks because they are easy to travel with, Patrick can eat them with little or no mess at all and they are healthy. We also try to only bring one or two sippy cups for him. We might have to rinse out his cup more, but its worth not carrying the extra stuff.

I know that you can't and shouldn't worry about all those crazy germs. It is especially important for us to wipe Patrick's hands because he is a thumb sucker.  I also can count several times when he stinks up the car with one of his dirty diapers and a little thing of Lysol can make that stench go away. Making the car ride that more enjoyable.

Sometimes it is hard for me to limit the amount of toys to bring. But only bring 1 or 2 toys. Everything is just extra "stuff" and it gets so hard. I have found that I have a lot of fun and interesting things in my purse that will keep him entertained, like a brush or a mirror. These are things I already have, I just need to use my imagination.

A blanket is something we often forget and it is a huge regret. It not only keeps them warm but it smells like home and that will provide much needed comfort.

If all else fails use technology! An ipad or iphone are great distractions. Yo Gabba Gabba is our favorite. It doesn't keep Patrick's attention for too long but even 15 minutes of him not moving around is enough time for me to catch my breath.

Most important is to have patience. Things are not going to go the way you planned. Your little one will throw the toy and hit someone in the head or spill milk all over the backseat of the car. Patience will keep the tough situations a little easier. And remember, it might not be funny in the moment but it will be something to laugh at later.

I know there are a lot of frequent flyer and traveling moms out there, what are your tips and must-haves? Check out this blog for more tips and good ideas.

let's take the day off

Happy Monday! I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend.

I have been pretty busy working on taking my business to the next level. I am wanting to have a new blog and website done within the next couple of months, so I have been busy getting the look and style figured out. There are so many options...it is hard to pick one. But between spending hours on pinterest, which I consider work and taking care of my baby boy, we took the day off and drove up to Laie.

I never have pictures of me and my family. I am always behind the camera. So I decided to set my timer on my camera and spent 15 minutes trying to get a decent picture of the three of us. It was not easy.

I hope you enjoy and please feel free to become a follower and comment...I love comments!

instagram:love.

Since we have been here in Hawaii my phone has been filling up with photos. It is a great way to share all the day to day memories and it has kinda become somewhat of a journal of our summer. Some of the apps that I have found that add beautiful bokeh effects and light flares are picfx ($1.99) has tons of effects and lets you layer looks to share on instagram. Another that is my favorite is lumie ($1.99) and this app has a variety of shapes and effects.

Do you love instagram as much as I do? Find me @leslieleavitt

sun and sea

I hope you all had a great holiday weekend, I sure did!

Living in Hawaii is great, but like moving anywhere, it takes some time to get adjusted. For a week, we would wake up at 6:00 in the morning because of the time difference. But we are now settled into our new place and able to have some fun. We drove around the island and stopped at some of the most popular spots such as Blow Hole, Pali Lookout, Waikiki and Hanauma Bay. I never get tired of Waikiki. It has fantastic shopping, great restaurants and lots of entertainment.

I took some photos of my parents for their anniversary, check out my facebook for a little sneak peak.
