Carlos Vallejo 2013 Graduation | Event Photographer

Last week I was asked to document Carlos graduating and I was so excited to be able to do this for him and his family. We have known Carlos and his family for a very long time and he is like a younger brother. He will be serving an LDS mission in Mexico City in July and we couldn't be more proud.
Thanks Carlos and the Vallejo family for including me in such a special day!

My website is finally done!

This has been such a long process! I wouldn't believe how long it took to finish, if I didn't experience it first hand! I never realized how indecisive I was. I would decide on something and a few days later I completely changed my mind. I am so excited to be done and to show everyone! I hope you like it and let me know what you think!

Of course, I will continue to post on this blog too!

Carly Gorman | Before and After

I loved photographing Carly and a huge thank you to her for working with me! She is absolutely gorgeous and a breeze to photograph. I am also really excited to showcase this "before and after" session!
I always love being able to work in the Pacific Northwest. It has so many beautiful forests and ocean, providing a backdrop unlike any other. If you are looking for a one-of-a kind experience, please contact me to set up your session. I have limited availability and spaces are filling up quickly. Don't hesitate to book your session this summer, it's never too early!

beach day | point no point

To help keep me and Patrick busy, I have decided to start a new series on my blog. I am going to visit a new place each week, somewhere I have never been and post all the fun pictures on my blog!
Our first place we went to was Point no Point beach and lighthouse. It was a perfect day and Patrick loved the sand and the freezing cold water (much different than Hawaii).

If you have any suggestions for places that me and Patrick should go, let me know! I would love to know of any awesome places you have been!

shutter speed | tuesday tip

When I first got mtg camera, shutter speed was the one thing that confused me the most. I didn't even bother to learn about it because I set my camera to Aperture Priority and my shutter speed was chosen for me. But I wouldn't always get the best images, some would be too dark, some would be blown out and too bright, so I knew I had to learn how to shoot in Manual Mode so I had all of the control.

It really wasn't as hard as I thought it would be to shoot in manual, there is just a lot of things to consider. ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed are a few of the important things to always consider. If you change one, it will effect them all.

But I just wanted to talk a little about shutter speed. I took my camera and these beautiful peonies outside and just played around and just kept changing my shutter speed. A slower shutter speed will let in more light, as in the picture below.

f/1.8, iso 250, 1/60

When I have such a blown out picture, I need to speed up my shutter speed so that it wont let in as much light. I turned it to 1/320 and this is the picture I got!

f/1.8, iso 250, 1/320

f/1.8, iso 250, 1/500
It is really much easier to practice on something that wont move. Shutter speed also will affect how sharp or how blurry an image is and if you have a fast moving object (like a child) in low light, you wont be able to slow down your shutter speed as much or else he will become a blur.

This is an example of my shutter speed being too fast and not letting enough light in the camera, resulting in a dark image.

f/1.8, iso 100, 1/4000
I adjusted my shutter speed and made sure it would be slow enough to brighten the picture but fast enough to freeze most of his movement.
f/1.8, iso 100, 1/800
And another example of how this photo is a little darker then I wanted, so I just slowed down my shutter speed a bit and got a much brighter image.

today...oh what a day!

I am not exactly sure where all of the time goes. I have always been able to find time to blog and to do my work but lately it is 11:00 at night before I have time for myself. Since we have moved, I have been trying to transition Patrick into his toddler bed. Who would have thought it would take 2 hours to get him to sleep. He literally gets out of bed a thousand times thinking that you are playing a game with him. And since Tyler will not be back for another three weeks, I am working hard to find all of the patience I possible can.
Also, we started swim lessons today and he managed to make that completely embarrassing by throwing his plastic toy boat and hitting another little baby in class. So I say again, to that mother and all that maybe hit by flying toys in the future, I am sorry for Patrick's enjoyment in throwing his toys.
Needless to say, I am falling a little behind in my blogging. But I did not want to end the night with out a post, so in the effort to stick to my goal, I will post a "sneak peak" of what is to come on Wednesday! Tomorrow I have a fun post about shutter speed and how I am learning to understand my camera better.
